Hello

How do I go about asking a computer for its name (Or some other unique identification number), from my visual basic application?

Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you ETID, but can you elaborate on that definition a little PLEASE,

THankS

ETID is suggesting you use the 'built in' environment variables (which is also what I would have sugggested!)

I'm not working at the mo and can't remember full details and my win 95 machine is a bit limited. If you open a DOS window and type SET <enter> you will get a list of available variables - I think set by your system.

In your case you should see something like
COMPUTERNAME = "MYLITTLEPC1" or however they're named. The code ETID posted returns this name. You can use this syntax for checking the temp directory, prompt information, path statement and so on.

Can't check myself but I think you will have to look deeper if you want the name of a remote PC ie not the one running the routine.

Hello everyone!
