Access97: Parameter prompts keep repeating when running query - why?

I posted this a while ago - but maybe I didn't give it a good enough title to get a response. So, here goes . . .

When I add a simple prompt to a query field (such as [Date]), I'm often prompted more than once for the value when running the query. This has happend in numerous queries and with both text & numeric values. Also, other users here have had it happen, so at least it isn't just me!

I have tried putting the parameters just in the field or in both the "parameters" box and field. What to do?
