Hi,

Maybe this is a silly question, but in SCCS/CallPilot what is the difference between an access and an ivr port? Which script commands can I use with access ports and which with the ivr ones?

I have very few ports so I want to make them as efficient as possible.

Thanks in advance,

Usually an access port is used when you want to collect digits or such. The IVR ports are only for playing messages. NOt a dumb question at all. Nortel doesnt make it very clear in their docs about things like this, you either have to ask someone who is in the know or hope your Nortel partner is savy on this kind of stuff.

The script commands for using an IVR port would probably be something like GIVE IVR. The commands for an access port would be something like:

open voice session
play prompt
collect digits into
end voice session

I'm no scripting guru by any stretch but you should probably read the symposium scripting guides for more detail about how to use both of these functions.

Thank you so much!!! This question has been killing for a while.

In addition, have you tried to OPEN VOICE SESSION just with IVR ports? Is it possible?

Access ports will be most efficient in most circumstances. The Give IVR commnand dedicates a port to a caller. Access has a GIVE CONTROLLED BROADCAST ANNOUNCEMENT command which can broadcast an announcement. One port is used to play the announcement to many callers (up to 50) at once.

i recently added 8 ivr ports to mail.. there's a checkbox in one of the main screens that define the ivr ports and they are not used for call answering.. just ivr.. we bought them for the give ivr interuptable command.. we can give users the option to press 1 to leave a msg without taking them out of cue

Also an IVR port is 1 to 1, 1 user, 1 port, an Access port can handle up to 50 simutaneously calls at one time, if it is programmed properly.

My two Cents
