Hello,

As a new project, I have a branch office connecting to the main office where Visual Foxpro data is located, at the server...

the PCs at the branch office have UNC mappings directly to the data directory at the Server (at Main office).

The connection is extremely slow. Each PC has a local exe file that runs the Foxpro application, just as the local PCs do (at main office).

Although I expected the data retrieval to be slower, it has proven to be extremely slow. I have seen similar inter-branch connections for Foxpro applications and they have worked fine.

Is my connection the problem, or does Foxpro need to be optimized to run over a WAN? Is Remote View the answer?

(WAN speed is 3mbps download, 1.6mbps upload)

Many thanks for your insight.

Are you dragging the application and/or the run-time support across the WAn as well.

I wouldn't encourage running the application in this way (across the WAN, regardless of whether the app was local or remote) because it will be slow, and it's dangerous - if your connections fail, you can corrupt you database.

You might be better using either a program like pcAnywhere (or the free version VNC) or writing the client side as a web page based system (using IIS and .asp).

HTH
