I had two versions VFP on my laptop. (Versions 6 and 9)
To save space I deleted /means deinstalled VFP 6

Every time now, when I start VFP 9, then this message comes up.

After I click this message away , VFP 9 sta(rts normal.

Can I repair that - so that this message does not appear again?
Thanks Klaus

I vaguely remember seeing a similar message once before, which I tracked down to an issue with the VFP Task Pane. I disabled the Task Pane from loading automatically, and the problem went away.

Try this: Open the Task Pane from the Tools menu. Click the Options button in its toolbar. In the treeview on the left-hand side, select Task Pane Manager. Then clear the checkbox that says "Open the Task Pane when VFP starts".

I'm sorry I don't remember any more details, so cannot guarantee that this will work. But give it a try.

Also, I note that this is a standard VFP error message (Error 1640), but it is not a standard VFP error dialogue, which leads me to think that you are running some code in a startup program every time you launch VFP, and that code is somehow trapping the error.

True, the VFP system error message would have the fox icon in the title bar. But also any standard window you display from a _startup program.

I know VFP has many registry keys to store config options. But they are explicitly called differently.
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\9.0 should be there, or did VFP6 uninstallation remove that by removing Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\ and all below that level?

Did you switch UAC (User Account Control) to be able to uninstall and didn't set them back?

What you can try to fix the registry is run vfpclean.app from the installation directory.
Delete Foxuser.dbf, of course
And perhaps run vfp9.exe /regserver, which you need to execute from cmd.exe run with administrator elevation.

Mike, I did it - and saw that the checkbox were already empty.
That did not help unfortunately.

But I saw this, when pane opens:

Chriss - I will give your hints a try tomorrow.
Thanks to you and Mike.

Wehn MSXML 4.0 is missing, reinstalling VFP9 would help to get it back. Which also should fix the registry and any other aspect gone wrong.

Thanks Chriss,
as I am in vacation, I will try it with a VFP re-installion when back home next week.
