We have just converted an application running on an NT server to a service. The application sends a report to a printer. When running as an application with a user logged in, the application found the printers defined for the user. Now that it is running as a service the application can not find a printer. Is there a way to define a printer the service can find without a user being logged on??

Services generally run under the security context of the local machine and therefore cannot access anything across a netowrk.

As, a beginning yo need to get the service to run under a domain account: In Start>Control Panel>Services open the startup properties for the service. Instead of logging on as a system account log on under a domain account that can access the printer.

I don't know if this will give you access to the user profile (and the printer defined in it) or not, but it should get you going in the right direction.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...
