Can I set up a pass through query from an Access database to another Access database. I have been trying all morning with no luck!

Every time I try I get one of two errors: either it says: You cannot use ODBC to import from, export to, or link an external Microsoft Jet or ISAM database table to your database. (Error 3423)

or when I put in the DSN in the ODBC query string that I have already set up I get: ODBC — connection to <name> failed.

The reason I want to do this is I want to force the other database to process the query and hopefully speed it up.

If anyone can help I will be very grateful

You can't do that. Access is not a database engine running on a server. It runs on the client. The MDB can't run queries on its own. If you want to query a table in another database, the query must run in Access on your client. Terry L. Broadbent

Thanks for the reply. I won't waste any more time on that then.
