Hi,

I can access a network folder where there is an Access database. When I click on the database, I can see the table view where a large number of tables are linked tables. How can I trace it back to the table/database to which it is linked to?

Secondly, when I click on one of the linked tables, I get an error "ODBC Connection to SQL Server<SQLServerName> Failed".

2nd error says "Microsoft Access cannot open the table in Datasheet view"

How can I resolve this?

Thanks.

Have you looked at Tools->Database Utilities->Linked Table Manager?

Thanks for the response. This database is in Acess 97. I can see the Linked table Manager under the Tools->Database Utilities. But it is greyed out. Any ideas why it would be greyed out.

When I open the database, I get a message "You can't make changes to the database objects in the database 'HRDATA' This database was created in earlier version of Microsoft Access. To convert this database to the current version of Microsoft Access, close the database, point to Database Utilities on the Tools Menu, and then click Convert Database

You must convert the database. Make a back-up first.

Thanks. I converted the database to Access 2003. Now I can see the Access Linked Table Manager. When I clicked on the linked tables, it shows that the connection to the SQL server was denied. So I refreshed the ODBC connection and now I can see the data-sheet view of the table.

Buw what concerns me is this:

Size of the Access 97 database is: 1904 KB
Size of the Access 2003 database is: 812 KB

Why would that be so? Did I lose anything in the process?

I checked the count of the no. of records for both versions of the same database. The count of records is the same.

Thanks.

Perhaps your '97 db had not been compacted in a while?

Ignorance of certain subjects is a great part of wisdom

Seems that the original 97 DB wasn't compacted.

Hope This Helps, PH.
