Recently our users' computers were upgraded. but somehow they can't use the Access system simutaneously any more: Whenever more than one user tires to access the system, the system no longer permits it. Only the initial user can gain access. All others are given the message” the system has been locked or is in use by the admin...”, or something to that effect. Of course, the sytem is located on a server.
I suspect there might be some security issue(sharing file?).... Can you point a right direction for me? Thanks a lot!

Have a great weekend to you all!

Mayo,

Can any user open the database providing they are the initial user?

It sounds like the datbase is being opened exclusively. This will probably be down to one of two things:

1. Access is set to open the database exclussively be default (check Tools > Options > Advanced > Default Open Mode).

2. It's down to permissions set on your network share. Check with your network administrator.

Ed Metcalfe.

Further expounding on #2 on his list, make sure you have the ability to CREATE and DELETE files on the shared folder, as well as read/write rights. Search for 'LDB files' if you're curious why.

I checked the sharing issue for the database itself, it’s set to Share.
Today, I encountered the similar problem again when I tried to open up another database, the error message said:
<Could not use “driveName:\FolderName\dbName.mdb”, the file already in use.>. But later it can be opened when no one else is using it. This really puzzles me. Please advise!
by the way, I can still create/delete files on the shared folder.

Thanks a lot!
