Recently I installed my .mde on several PCs. This software has operated for years without a problem. On the new PCs I get an error message when Access tries to use the date() function. The messsage states:

The expression onClick you entered as an event property setting produced the following error: Function is not available in query expression 'Date()'.

Here is some more info for you:
Both the development machine and the customer's machine run Access 2003. However, I also have Access 2007 on the development machine.

The EXACT same vba references are set on both machines. So they have access to the same libraries.

Can you give me any suggestions for addressing this issue?

We have had the same problem. Ours started after an unrelated MS update. I had to change code to NOW(). A couple of months later I forgot and used DATE() again and it worked on the machines that it did not before. I hope someone has an explanation.

You likely have a reference issue.
Does the 2003 mdb compiles properly before converting it to mde ?
Can't you create the mde in a machine having only 2003 installed ?

Hope This Helps, PH.
