Access SharePoint over the URL

I have installed SharePoint Services 3.0 on my Win 2003 Server. After the installation I tried changed the port of SharePoint to 81 because I have also another website running.

I try now to access the SharePoint with the URL:

http://servername:81/

The login window appears and I type my username and password. After that I become the "Server Error in '/' Application." error message.

Now it is getting interesting. When I use the URL:

http://servername:81/default.aspx

I can normaly log in and get access to SharePoint.

So, why does the URL need the extention default.aspx?

I would be glad for help. Sorry for my bad english but I am from Germany.

Are the port 81 requests being forwarded to that server?
