Hi
Hopefully someone will be able to help before I put the computer through the window!!!

I have a database that is used by mainly 3 people but sometimes 5 or 6 people. Sometimes we are not able to get into it and a message comes up with

"The database has been placed in a state by user 'Admin' on machine DLC0001ACC1 that prevents it from being opened or locked"

Unfortunatley, I'm not 100% sure who Admin is although I have a sneaky suspicion it may be me, as a few months ago I tried to get clever with security! (obviously it didn't work and I don't know how to get rid of it!)

If someone could help that would be great....
Thanks
Sarah

First off - work out which machine is DLC0001ACC1

Do you have the Access security model applied ?

This could be that you ( or someone on DLC0001ACC1 ) has opened the database in design mode or has opened it 'Exclusivly'

If you find that it is ALWAYS the same machine regardless of who is using it, and it is always on that machine whenever it is in use then it points to the copy of Access on that machine being set up to open in 'Exclusive' mode as default. ( This is very easy to do by accident )
{ Fortunatly it is easy enough to fix too. }

Open access and use the file dialog box to open the target database ( Do NOT pick from the recently opened list )

When you have selected the database file in the Open dialog box go to the bottom right corner and avoid clicking on OPEN but drop down the Open List Box

Now select Open from the list.

You have the database open in NON-Exclusive mode and access will remember to open non-exclusivly until you use this method and pick a different option in future.
