Hi,
I have a database that I packaged for runtime. When a tech from operations runs the install, the default folder points to C:\Program Files and the name of the folder where the original database is stored. He does not want it to point to Program Files, only the name of the folder. Does anyone know what I did wrong when I ran the package wizard to make it want to install to "Program Files" instead of the folder where the database is installed or does it automatically default to Program Files. Any help would get me off the hook here. Thanks
Lisa

During the Packaging process you have the option to change the Path in the Modify Installation Locations screen.

I believe by default it installs to $(AppPath), which installs to Program Files\Application Name.

You can select a different location such as $(WinPath).

I don't know for sure if it will install only to the folder name, but that it where you change the Installation Location.

You may need to play with it a couple of times to get what you want.

Good Luck.

I guess there is no way to just have it directed to C:\ and ApplicationName. It has to go to C:\Program Files or C:\Windows or in even more folders. Obviously a problem that I can't solve, they will have to browse. Thanks Lisa

When you say you "packaged" for runtime, do you have Office developer's Edition or something along those lines?

Hi,
I have the Microsoft Office XP Developer program that I use to make the runtime for PC's and laptops. This particular program is going on the laptops and I want it to install to C:\and the application name folder instead of Program Files and the application name folder or any of the other choices. There seems to be no way unless the tech running the setup browses and selects the C:\.

I'm not familiar with XP developer's edition so I won't try to guess on what you can or can't do. In Access 2003 Developer extensions there is some flexibility to choose an installation folder in the packaging wizard, or at at the time of install you may browse to the folder you want. Sounds like you are looking for something more automated though. There are other packaging utilities out there that might allow you to edit the install path, etc.
