Access rights to Excel file

I have a report that uses an MS Excel file for it's data. When I run the report though CR8.5 I have no problems. But when I use the Crystal Report Viewer the report keeps prompting me for a user id and password to access the database. The excel file has been left wide open with full permissions to everyone.

Any ideas?

The one that came with Crystal Enterprize, I am not sure which version, how would I be able to tell?

I had a similar problem with CR 9 and the RAS server. The only way that I could get the RAS server to work was to make the directory that holds the Excel file as well as the Excel file itself have read / write permissions.
