I am trying to create a replica of a MS Access data base onto a web site. I can use DOS FTP and WS-FTP or CUTE-FTP, but the error message within Access is Cannot connect to the FTP server on the computer named. I have tried a variety of configurations and names but nothing works.
ie. ftp.app-chemltd.co.uk or app-chemltd.co.uk

It seems simple but it won't play the game - one thing - how do you determine the port - which should be 21. It does dial up but it then says the folder is not available.
I would appreciate your help, regards Gary

It sounds like there is no FTP server running on the host you are trying to connect to, or you are trying to connect to the server on an incorrect port (FTP by default uses port 21, but can change depending on how the administrator has configured it - the only way to find out is to ask the admins).

Also, you could experience similar problems if you are sitting behind a firewall - if this is the case, you may need to speak to your admins on how to get through.

I'm unsure what you mean by "It does dial up but it then says the folder is not available." - do you mean it connects to the FTP server and logs in, but then does not allow you to access any folders?

Thanks Arion, at the site port 21 is used. I was wonderin ghow I tell Access to use port 21 (perhaps this is default?). Access dials the site then gives the message folder not available, but does not give the folder name. I can FTP the whole database to the site but not a replica. According to help this is possible but there seems littel to configure in ACCESS. I don't think there is anything on my PC to configure? The site seems to be set up OK although the administrator is unhelpful. It is easier for them to tell me to srt out my PC. If you can help further please do. I am realy stuck now. Regards, Gary
