Hi,

I have a number of Intel and Buffalo wireless access points. I'd like to change the IP addresses. I just wanted to confirm whether what I'm thinking is right or not? Access points are only layer 2 devices and therefore their IP addresses are generally used solely for management purposes? Does this sound about right?

The reason I ask is that I want to change their IPs to a static private range, as they are currently on reserved leases on a DHCP range. This DHCP range is now running out of available leases.

thanks

thats pretty much correct i think. At least on the cisco 1200 Ap's. I use an ip address from the management vlan for the ap and pc's connecting to the ap's get a ip address from the users pool. Thats also better security as the clients can't connect to the ap's.

CCNA, CCNP..partly ;)
