Hello folks,

Is there a known issue with Orinoco Silver wirless PCMCIA cards and Cisco Aironet 1200 access points? The problem is the Orinoco card associates to the access point but on the access point it has an ip address of 0.0.0.0 and as a result the laptop with the PCMCIA card doesn't have IP connectiviy I can't even ping the access point yet it is associated. Any feedback will be highly appreciated!

You need to put in the default gateway in your nic card. you say this is an AP so you must give it the routers address as a default gateway so that it knows where to send the packets when they need to go off the local net . If the routers address is 192.168.0.1 then put that in as your default gateway . Actually if you have a router this should be doleing out addresses and the gateway if you have your nic setup for dhcp automatically .

Thanks guys! The problem was the Orinoco Silver card doesn't support 128 bit encryption WEP keys. I am not going to reduce the ecnryption length so I am getting rid of this card as the Cisco cards do support 128 bit encryption. Cheers!

that's strange I thought everybody supported 128 WEP . I got a netgear wireless nic for $30 and that supports it and works very well .

The Orinoco "classic" Silver is a legacy card for the old 40bit encryption. The "classic" Gold is the 128 bit model.

I'm having trouble getting the Proxim "Orinoco 802.11b PC Card" to work with a Cisco AP1200 it works fine with 3com and other Orinoco AP2000's. I have the Orinoco "Classic" Gold card that works just fine in the same machine with all ap's. Just wondering if anyone else knows of a problem with thes Proxim Gold cards.
