I would like to establish an ODBC connection between a Windows PC (which has no Oracle software installed) and an Oracle database in order that I can carry out queries using Microsoft Query, Crystal Reports and any other Windows based SQL query tools. The Oracle database is administered by a third party who although they will provide the username and password info, provide no further help on this.

I have done some reading of this forum and there appears to be discussion about Oracle's software vs. third party software.

I'm familiar with MS SQL ODBC drivers and other ODBC connections but not Oracle.

If anyone could give me a "heads up" on what people normally do in this situation I would be grateful.

Finally comment is that I would really like the ODBC connection setup on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server however it this is complex or expensive then I could live with doing this from a standard Windows XP Pro PC.

Hi,
ODBC, in most cases, will not work for Oracle without an Oracle Client installed on the PC.

There are Direct Connect ODBC drivers out there that do not need an Oracle client installed, but they can be expensive..

Why not install an Oracle client..(It is free after all)

Thanks for advice.
Do you have a link so that I download the correct device for Windows XP?
