I have a problem, we use an access 2000 database across the network. Within one of the forms a word document is available as an Icon, (double click to open word document) this allows the user to copy and paste comments into a field in the database. When the document is opened a password is requested to open the doument as read only (to stop accidental changes) or normal. The problem is that when the document is opened as read only changes are still allowed, this does not occur when the document is opened from within word. It seems that acces is bypassing the security within word.
Any ideas?

To fix the problem I propose to use word view to open the document stopping any accidental deletions.
has anybody done this and if so how as I don't want to change the file associations to allow me to do this.
There is probably a blindingly obvious solution, I just can't think of it
