Hello,

I'm working in Access and I've created a table with a field that is of a number data type, however, I need to be able to enter a number that contains a zero in front. For example, 059. I have tried using all the different field sizes (integer, double, singe, etc) without any luck. It seems as if the byte field size would work, however, I need to be able to enter numbers greater than 255. Any help on this issue? Thanks!

hi,
I need to be able to enter a number that contains a zero in front. For example, 059.

Is this really a NUMBER, a value that you will be doing arithmetic on, or is this an IDENTIFIER, like a line or operation "number"

I have a look up table called cflag descriptions. Within that look up table is a field that i have called cflags codes along with the cflag descriptions. The problem is that I need to link my look up table with another table/view that contains the cflag codes that are of the number type. I can't change the data type of this particular view so I need to match mine to it. So even though I am not making any calculations with it, the data types of both tables need to match up in order for me to make the relationship between the two. Does this make any sense?

If its a NUMBER that you're matching, then it does not need a leading zero.

If its a STRING data type, then the leading zero is significant.

What data type?
