Hi All,

I have a small Lab at home and some times I want to access my routers(Cisco 2500) when I am away from home via modem connection. I am trying to find out how to connect to my routers(at least one of them) when I am away using Analog line.. Your help is appreciated..

Regards,

If memory serves, this is what I did:

I used USR 33.6 externals because they rock. Flip the AA switch so it will automatically answer.

To connect to the modem, you will need to go from the router's rollover cable (blue), to the RJ45/DB9 converter, to a null modem, to a serial DB9/25 converter, to the USR. There is a gender changer in there somewhere, when you are done you'll have a good chunk of adapters.

Get hyperterminal to go. Call the modem at 9600 baud, N81, no flow control. If it connects, hit enter and you should get a "router>". Or you might need to fiddle with it. I remeber messing with the modem's DIP's for a minute before I got it right (notably smart/dumb mode, etc). Don't forget to power cycle the modem when messing with the switches.

I had to ship twelve of these configurations with routers while installing a wan. It takes fiddling but does work.

It's also a good idea to put a password on that line if it's callable, do something like 'conf t, line con, login, password (a good password), exit, exit'

This all sounds right but it's been a while :)
