I've never been Unable to print an Access report once it's tested in Preview. But here's the first case. I close my Preview window (due to possible conflict noted in another forum). I then select File/Print and choose the printer in my office area. My PC screen shows the page numbers being printed (two page report); but the printer has no report. If I select another printer (two hundred feet further away), the report prints fine. I've run hundreds of Access reports on both printers before.
Printer that works: HP Laser Jet 5Si/MX PS
Printer not printing: HP Laser Jet 2300 Series PCL 6
Note: My report includes a Main report and two subreports. Both subreports are fed from queries using the same primary key as main report; the main report query uses a Parameter in the query to pull just the subject I want. I can print the subreports on the HP 2300, but not the main report (w/ subreports as controls in the Detail Section). Main report printing works fine though on the HP 5Si.
Any experience with this? Thanks for any feedback.
Jeff

Is the Jet 2300 a new installation on the network or has it worked OK in the past????

Frank,

The HP Jet 2300 has been installed for about 6 months and I use it every day for report printing in Access. When this Main/Sub report wouldn't come out of the printer, I checked the Windows Printer Settings to see if I had error in print queue - but nothing showed up, not even my print job. Its just a mystery. I am currently printing this report to the other HP printer.
Thanks, Jeff

I think there is an error in the printer set up routine via the network - I would consider the report is fine if it is showing the "printing 2 pages" screen therefore the problem lies after that.
The only thing that affect this is the network routing of this printer, why not:
Try making the duff printer your default printer and if this does not work reinstall that printer on to the network,
Hope this helps....

Frank,
Need to have you confirm which printer you mean to be the "duff" one - I assume is the printer currently not working (because dictionary says duff means 'partly decayed organic matter on forest floor.'). Please advise. Thanks, Jeff

The "duff" one locally means the one that is not working!
Sorry for confusing you........

Frank,
I got the HP Laser 2300 to print now. I did not change the printer, but I did change my Access report design - actually the underlying queries. My report still has a main report using Report Header and two subreports in the Detail section. The Main shows the Vendor Id and related vendor information; the Sub reports show Vendor Agreement data and Vendor Invoice data, respectively. What I changed is the underlying queries of all three reports. I now use a Dialog form, similar to Northwinds sample mdb, that is opened in the Report_Open event. I use a combo box to select a Vendor. Then my report queries use the [Forms]![myDialog]![VendorId] data to select the Vendor, the Agreements, and the Invoices - all related to the same Dialog box data (VendorId). And the "duff" printer now works. Wow!
Any thoughts, please let me know. My problem is solved, although the printer capability seems to differ between the 5Si and the 2300 series.
Thanks, Jeff
