I am developing an application in Access 2000.
All of a sudden I am getting a message that I can't make changes as the database is not opened exclusivly. When I close the database I notice that that the Access.Lockfile 9 still exists in the same folder as the database. It still stays there after I reboot the PC!
What causes this, and how do I prevent it?

It seems that your application closed unexpectedly. You should be able to delete the lock file when the database is closed.

I cannot delete the lock file when the database is closed. I get a message that it is use.
I need to reboot the PC and then delete the lock file before opening the database

When I close the database, the lock file is not automatically deleted. So when I open the database the lock file already exists.

If I try and delete it, XP returns a message that the file is in use and cannot be deleted. I must reboot the PC to delete the file.

In the reference you kindly provided is a solution that I will try.

Where is the database stored? Local drive or network drive?

If it is on a local drive it sounds like your instance of MS Access isn't closing correctly - although it is no longer visible it is still running and therefore the database file is still locked.

Check Task Manager for instances of MSAccess.exe. Alternatively download Process Explorer from and use it to identify which process has the file open.

If the file resides on a network drive this advice may not work, but still worth a go.

The thread does not specifically say check the user rights for the folder, you need full permissions.
