I have created a Knoppix bootable OS on a USB thumb drive as described in this article-

However I cannot seem to access the local hard drive, although in this article it shows that it should be relatively easy...

The version I have is 5.1 and the one in the article that is working shows version 4 I believe... Anyone have any experience with this... the HD I'm trying to access is a 160GB SATA... If anybody has any ideas I'd appreciate it... thanks!

Do you get any HD icons on your desktop when you run the thumb drive KNOPPIX? What about if you run the CD/DVD ISO version of KNOPPIX?

Generally, your SATA drive would be /dev/sda, however since you are booting from your thumb drive, it may be /dev/sda and you may need /dev/sdb instead. If you don't have a drive icon, try opening a konsole and typing "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1" to mount your SATA drive. You need to make sure that the directory /mnt/sda1 exists first though.

Thanks for the reply... I was able yesterday to use this-> ntfsmount /dev/sda1 /mnt/windows -o force

It got my drive mounted... I'll also try what you mentioned...

Thanks!

You did the same thing, just using ntfsmount instead of mount. I'm curious whether you actually needed the -o force or just did it because you knew that it would work.
