I am trying to determine the ip ranges for certain web pages (ie adult sites) so I can block access (via access lists on my PIX and/or router). Is there a group of network addresses to filter for these type of sites or is it random.

For instance, if I could block a range of addresses - it would be alot easier than filtering one at a time!!!

Thanks for the help!

You can try blocking 0.0.0.0 thru 255.255.255.255 You would solve your problem then. LOL. There is no range of IP addresses set aside for any particular content. Everyone pays for addressess or they take whatever address there hosting company has. Could be any one of them.

The thought has crossed my mind!!! s-)

If your goal is to block sites based on a category (adult, etc.), access list won't do what you want. Websense ( does this for the PIX. There are a couple of PIX statements dealing with this (filter and url-server).

If anyone knows of any other software that does filtering with the PIX, I'd like to know. I don't want to spend money on proxies. I'd like a homegrown or turnkey solution which uses the PIX. Something on the Linux platform ?
