Hi, I have been using an Access database at work for a while but, as it gets bigger and bigger, It's seems to get slower, some computer under windows 98 won't even run it anymore as it lacks the system resources to do so. Should I plan on exporting to another database? Is this normal or is something really wrong? What should I do? Thanx.

Hi

Have you compacted the database?, see tools \ database utilities \ compact

Be sure you have a backup copy BEFORE you compact

Are you storing images within the database, doing so can cause rapid grwth in size, if this is the problem, solution is to store the path to the image(s) in the database, and store the actual images externally.

Some solution:
1) split out data and program. Put all table in one MDB and program in another MDB and use linked table.
2) MDB maxim size is 2G. If size is getting bigger, may put all tables in SQL server

another option i've seen done nicly for realy big tables, have one table in one mdb, and link your program mdb to many back end mdb's...
