Access File won't open for some users via a double-click

We have a Citrix environment that our MS Access world resides on. There are approximately 220 Access 2002-03 databases on the server. The server itself has corruption issues, so we are in the middle of a migration to a much bigger and better one. In testing the new server/environment, we've come accross an issue that our server folks don't have an answer to. If a database is open, and a second user attempts to double-click the .mdb icon to open it, it does absolutly nothing. No hour-glass, no error message, nothing. If the user highlights the .mdb icon and then selects - File - Open, it opens up.

Can anyone tell me why this might be happening or how we could go about resolving it? I would hate to have to train people to use the file open workaround if we don't have to. Most of these folks fall apart quickly when it comes to anything related to computers.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Dear neeko,

Two ideas here.

1) When the first user opens the Access file, a lock file is created in the same folder. Perhaps your users are clicking on the lock file instead. Seems inocent enough, but it is a thought.

2) You could create shortcuts to all the Access files. Place these shortcuts in a diferent folder and have your user click on the short cuts. If this does not work, then actually place the 'MS Access.exe' as part of the shorcut. That will solve the problem for sure.
Shortcut Example might be:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE" "F:\YourAccess\Accounting_PRO.mdb"

Hope This Helps,
Hap...
