Access Exchange server over Internet

Got a question from an Exchange neophyte here. Running Exchange 2000 on Server 2000, everything works well on the LAN, but is there a way to connect Outlook 2000 over the Internet--I know how to do it with 2003, but didn't know how with 2000. And the client is not satisfied with the OWA interface--must be their local Outlook.
