I have Win 98 and am trying to take a computer class on-line. i am suppose to use office 2000 "professional" but i am trying to use office 97 access. I was given a cd that contains files from the school. 97 access wont recognize .mdb files i guess. when i try to open the file in access, it says UNRECOGNIZED DATABASE FORMAT FILENAME (ERROR 3343) and it mentions below that that the specified file is not a microsoft jet database. I am sure the error is because the disk i have requires access in office 2000, but is there any way to get a download or something to make it work??
Unfortunatey, No. If the course won't be using too many things that are specific to access 2000, (it probably isn't) then you could bring the .mdb to work or a friend's place who has Access 2000 (If they have Office 2000, it's got to be 'Professional' version), and convert it, this is an easy task that Access 2000 can do. Or ask the course admin. or teacher if they will convert it for you.
BTW, I've found many times you can get the best deal ($) on a software product by buying the academic version. I once bought a full version of VB5 from a student bookstore for $99! The diff in price paid for the course. This may be a great time to upgrade, if the on-line course has a bookstore.

Access 97 will not read a Access 2000 *.mdb file
I have both, 97 at work and 2000 at home, it's a pain. I'm going to have to load both on my home computer so I can do some of the work from work :-(
