I have a PC Windows 2000 formatted NTFS. I was playing around with securities and assigned ownership to a user with administrator rights. Since then I am not able to boot the PC. I get a boot disk error. I ran recovery console and can see all my files, but when I try to copy them I get a access is denied error. I also ran winternals erd and cannot change to the c drive at all. I have a backup of most of my files, but I really need a few off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to retrieve these files?

If you have access to another 2k (or NT/XP) machine, install your drive as slave. Should be able to retrieve now (take ownership on new machine if necessary).

This worked for me. Thanks for your help. I made the drive a slave on another system and was able to get the files off I needed. But getting the disk to boot again was quite a chore - thank goodness for DOS diskettes. I am back up and running with Windows 2000.
