I have a file in a shared folder that I can not delete or rename from either an explorer or from a command prompt. I get a access denied on this file when I try to delete, rename or take ownership. The file name is aux.mtg when I do a directory of the file aux.* I get a message that the file \\.\aux can not be found. I am logged on as a user with administrator rights. Any ideas? thanks.

FIRST DO AGAIN LOGIN AND MAKE SURE THAT NO-BODY HAVE OPEN THAT SOFTWARE/FILE/FOLDER.

AFTER DO THIS TAKE A CHANCE AND IF THE PROB. REMAINS THEN TAKE THE OWNERSHIP. AND THEN TRY TO DELETE.

SCYRONISE THE SERVER

I agree with ThirteenJuly, it would appear that the file is open.

If the above does not work, try rebooting the server then deleting the file. -----------------------------------------------------

The file is not shown as being open, rebooted the server, no one else was logged on, and was still unable to delete the file or take ownership of the file. When I tried to take ownership of the folder that file is in, I get a access denied when it comes to that file. It does not seem to be hurting anything, it is just showing up on the backup log that it can not be backed up.
