We are running NT4.0 SP6a and Exchange 5.5 one one server and SQL7.0 on another. We have recently changed the name of the admin user. I have the Backupexec user in the domain admin group. I can access and backup all the shares on all the servers but now I get this error when tring to backup the Exchange box
"The Exchange Store service is not responding. Backup set canceled.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Unable to open the item Directory - skipped."

and "The Exchange Store service is not responding. Backup set canceled.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Unable to open the item Information Store - skipped."

When I select the Information Store or the Exchange Store in the selections window of the application, in the right pane window there is no info. It lets me select them but I get the errors mentioned above.

That is problem #1.

Problem #2 is that on one of my SQL servers everything is fine but on one of them I can not attatch to the SQL Server as the backupexec user. It tells me that "You may already be logged in with a different user name and password"
This is a pain because even if I try to log in as the new name for the domain admin I get the same msg.
I have tried uninstalling the remote agent and reinstalling it.<No change>

I have uninstalled the license and reinstalled.<No change>

I have added the backupexec user to the loacal admin group of the SQL server.<No change>

I am out of ideas can someone help with this problem(s).

It seems that if I could break whatever 'user connection' that is still there, it would let me log on, like I said my other SQL server didn't give me this trouble and is working fine.

For the SQL Server issue...log onto SQL Server, use Enterprise Manager, drill down to Management > Current Activity and click on Process Activity. Scroll through the right hand window and see if there are any connections from Backup Exec. You might find one still active. KILL it and retry Backup Exec.

Checked, nothing refering to backupexec or the backupexec user.

Have you tried stopping and starting the Backup Exec services? Rebooting the BE server?

-SQLBill

Can't reboot the BE server till after hours, but will try. Any ideas on the exchange problem?

I'm a SQL Server DBA and that's all I backup, so I don't have experience with Exchange.

Guesses here: Have you tried changing the admin password back to it's original and see if everything works fine? Maybe you missed changing the password somewhere.

-SQLBill

It's not only the admin password but the admin user as well.
