Access denied for user 'root'@'host' to database 'db' 1

Strange error:

i'm trying to connect from a remote host to a db, and I just cannot. I can make a successful connection to another db (test), but not to the productive db.

I have tried some things (flush privileges, grant everything), but I still cannot connect to the db.

What can be the cause ??

You've added root and the associated host to the users table ? - on a base install root only has access from localhost iirc.
