Access denied - cannot back up Mailboxes/Public folders 2

Veritas 10 on Windows 2000(SP4)/Exchange 2000, cannot backup either Mailboxes or Public folders
- given access denied, you do not have rights message.
Have tried Using; Domain Admin account, Local Admin Account
Specially created backup account, all failed.
Any suggestions welcome,
Is this a Veritas Issue or a Windows AD issue ?
Clues please........
 
It is an Exchange Server issue. You need to be an Exchange Administrator or delegated user to be able to back it up.
 
i'm having this same issue right now, and i agree that it's an exchange issue. i'm a full exchange admin, but if i go to the security tab of my server (System Manager), i've got some inherited denies, but i can't find where they are inherited from.

the thing works now, it appears that the exchange administrator/backup administrator account, mailbox has to be visible.
This was previously hidden and as soon as we cleared the check box and allowed the mailbox to be seen - all the required rights appeared and everything worked.
Don't quite understand why this should be necessarry but tried hiding it and revealing it again and it worked/didn't work every time.
 
Hi,

the reason for displaying the BE mail account is that BE uses the Global Address Book to find it's own Exchange account to send mails with. If the user is not visible in the Global Address Book, BE fails to find itself.

(there is a KB article on Veritas`web site for that...)
