In a system with about 10 users, if one person updates a record, others in same form are locked (not using the same record) and the system comes to a halt. Both frontend and back are on the same file server. This is Access 2000.
Do you think the server is to blame?
The program has been working for some 5 years, and has not been altered in any major way lately.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Most likely your set up is to blame. There is absolutely no advantage to having a split database in this employment. Might as well simply not split it. You have defeated the purpose and advantages of a split database.

Each user should have the front end on their local machine! Anything else is a waste of time. Would not even look at other possibilities until fixing this.
