My first post on this forum - please be gentle etc..

We have a situation where all our files will be transferred to a web accessed sytem on Windows 2000 server.

We have many MS Access databases which work very well at present, but which will need to be accessible over the web portal. Our contact for the project has recommended the use of Sun Java to enable punters to use the Access databases.

I'm used to using VBA, but Java is something else... Can anyone advise me on suitable training courses available (in the UK), and which specific aspects of Java to concentrate on to develop knowledge of this area.

Thanks in advance

Greetings telephoto.

The areas you will need to look at are JDBC (Java DataBase Connectivity), JSP (JavaServer Pages) and Servlets.

I'll say now that I avoid using MS Access completely with my Java work. It's too proprietary and unless you can find a robust (commercial - not free) JDBC Driver to allow Java to connect to it, you're stuck with using Sun's own jdbc:eek:dbc bridge which is definitely not robust (and even Sun stress it's only worth using in a research / experimental environment).
