hi
big problems here
my access database has exceeded a gig and wont open properly. I was able to do a repair on the data base but a compact wouldnt work. I tried using JetComp, a database file compress but to no avail.
Ive purged data from within the database that I could do without, lots of it; and still its over a gig, seems like none of tat worked.

Please this is s desprate cry for help....what else should I try.

Peace
steve

I'm sorry to tell you this, but Access isn't designed to handle large databases. It can handle a fair sized one well enough, but once you start to get to the GB size, it's time to switch to Oracle or some other DB manager. Of course, by then it's probably too late. :-I

thanks logius,
Unfortunatly the app Im using is only compatible with ACCESS 97.
Too bad though, oracle i find much more reliable.
Peace,,,

What I always finds works when something like this happens:

Create a new blank database, then import ALL the database objects from your oversized database. It will usually still let you import from it. Then all you have to do is remember any other settings in the database and duplicate them in your new one.

Once you have done this, remember to compact the database at regular intervals to keep it at a managable size.

Thanks fo all your help.
Ive managed to use a backed up version of that database from 2 weeks ago, while trying to fix this main one. Problem is though now I gotta wait till all the employees leave their workstations so I can try these suggestions...
Peace out and many thanks
