OK all you Guru Access Heads. this is for you...
When an Access '97 database's VBA code gets corrupted.
So bad that you cannot even open the .MDB.
I have learned, direct from Microsoft, that you can create a new database and import items that had no VBA code in them such as Tables, (Queries that did not call a VBA function) and Macros and Forms or Reports.
Why? Is all of the VBA code in one area or what?
I would thought that Microsoft would have fixed this in 2000
I am working with a clients database and cannot even import some of the forms for this reason.
So they have to be re-created.
I use 2000 and the client has '97 I tried to convert the database to 2000 and got errors in the forms.
I tried Repair/Compress but that didn't work either.
I managed to import 50% of the forms all of the tables and queries.
This needs to be changed...

What do you think?
DougP
dposton@universal1.com

Doug,
All I can say is that I've seen that corruption before, usually accompanied by the "Automation error" message, or worse, the totally blank error dialog.

And, in Access 2000, I've done only 2 projects so far, and in the most recent one, I experienced severe corruption and bizzare behaviour. It's scary. It had to do with VBA code that was tied to a form that had been renamed. The VBA code couldn't find the object (form) it was supposed to be tied to, and these 'orphaned' modules couldn't be deleted. Then, the renamed forms could have no changes made to them--the 'Yes' button when the Save prompt appeared would click but the form wouldn't close and the save never happened.

Had to start all forms from scratch, could only import tables. BUT, before I did a *new* db, I (foolishly) tried to just delete all forms and start over with new forms in the same mdb. Got 5 or so done, closed the mdb to do some other stuff, then, I reopened 10 minutes later, and ALL forms were gone! I even did a Find Files, thinking I might have the wrong mdb, but the only mdb modified that day was this one--with no forms. Very creepy. We will be lucky if MS has a service pack soon, this is reminding me of the horrors of Access 95!
