Access Copy Database with Linked Tables

Please help, I am new to Access, so this may be a stupid question. I am trying to change the design of a couple of forms, tables and queries. I have a copy of the database I am trying to change. It was copied at the OS level. When I attempt to access, I get a 'read only' message. I tried importing the elements into a new database, but I get an error at the linked tables that it cannot find the path to the server. I tried to unlink the tables using the table link manager, but then I get a message I have no access to the file I just created. I tried to give myself access through Windows 2000, but that doesn't seem to do anything. The MS Access version is 97. Any help appreciated.

I think the fix for the read-only problem is to right click the Explorer icon for the database, choose Properties, and clear the Read Only check box.

Apparently, your copy of the database can't access the back end database using the path that was used to create the link. That's probably a good thing; you should always copy the front end and the back end when you're making a maintenance copy, and you should immediately use the Linked Table Manager to relink the tables to your copy of the back end. Otherwise you risk doing damage to the production back end.

You say you're using the Linked Table Manager to unlink the tables? Is that something new in Access 2002 or later, or am I being dense? I don't know what to make of that.

In any case, see if my previous suggestions solve your problem.
