Hi everyone,
I have a problem with access control on my workstations (win98, win95). I have a policy in place in which i specify user level access and specify my domain name as the source to obtain a list of users from, when a user logs in, if you check the access control tab it specifies userlevel access and my domain name is listed correctly, but when i share a folder and try to add users to the permissions, i get an error message "no list of users available at this time". I cannot see the list of users from my NT server. The user has file and share priviledges. I have DHCP, WINS, and DNS servers setup on my network. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Dumb Question from me, Do you have file sharing on? Just learning myself alot of this stuff too so take it easy on me :p I dont' have a policy setup unless I did it by accident  and no DNS, WINS or DHCP service but Adding permissions works for me. I assume you successfully log on to the domain or you would have said as such. I realize you will be helping me much more than I can help you but I am just jumping in here too if you don't mind. Thanks
John Durbin

<a href= Certified Professional VFP Programmer
ICQ VFP ActiveList #73897253

Thanks JDurbin for the reply, I welcome any suggestions. As for your question, its not a dumb question at all, sometimes i find solving a problem can be something simple that was just over looked. However, in my case, file and print sharing is turned on, I can share a file or folder but I can't assign anyone permissions to the folders, so i end up with a shared folder that no one can access.

Thanks :)

Hey! What group or what priviledges do you have on the server from your win98 machine? Can that be it? I always log in with administrative privledges from my 98 notebook.
Also, could the policy have screwed anything up? This is fun learning huh?
John Durbin

<a href= Certified Professional VFP Programmer
ICQ VFP ActiveList #73897253

Only certain groups in my policy have Share priviledges, but they cannot share a file, not even the administrator who has full control. The puzzling thing about this is that it worked fine up until about a month ago. The only thing I've change since then was I disabled password caching and enforced strong encryption on the passwords (for the extra security). I'm not sure if this will effect access control so i'm trying to do a bit of investigating to find out. If anyone know anything about this, i would appreciate the advice.

Thanks
Computerguy

Hi everyone,
I've solved the problem with my access control, I noticed my policy file was not updated on my BDC, once I replicated my policy file from my PDC to my BDC, I was able to view the list of users when ever I share a resource.

Thanks everyone, and thanks JDurbin for the input,
Computerguy
