Has anyone had any problems with Access and Goldmine running at the same time. When I am in Access working on my program, I will tell it to save and not always, but once in a while (every 3 days) it will say it can't save the record and then all these Goldmine messages start coming up that this file is locked and that file is locked, etc. This has also caused my Access db to become corrupt quite frequently. I end up having to close Access and lose my work. Is there a setting in Goldmine I need to fix? All my Microsoft programs are up to date. I am using XP, Goldmine 5.7, and Office 2002 on a Novell server. Thanks for any ideas or help, Janet Lyn

Not on purpose. Although I am the one who is "all-knowing" about Goldmine (yeah right), I really don't know much about it at all. I didn't even know Goldmine had .dbf files. It has caused me to have rename the license file a couple times though. JL

It sounds to me, then, like the DNS for .dbf files is set to the Access driver, or vice-versa, in your ODBC

If that sounds like a lot of letters and no meaning to you, then you likely can't fix it on your own. Essentially, there is a way that Windows knows what to do when it sees a certain type of database file, and there is something in there telling it to do the wrong thing.

I would pack and rebuild GM and then tell someone who fixes GM for a living about this and get then to check your drivers in ODBC, or buy a book about ODBC and fix it (which would be good knowledge for you

Your absolutely right. I never was very good with acronyms or whatever they are called. However, I would like to know what ODBC stands for if you do not mind; I don't think it stands for overdrive-blind copy. HAHA. Thanks for your help wizard. Janet Lyn

Janet, could you post the contents of your Help|About|System screen for us? There's a handy COPY button there that will let you copy it all to your clipboard. Feel free to blank the serial number, but I'm interested to see your common files and GoldMine files entries. I hope you're not trying to use an ACCESS ODBE (open database connectivity) source as your GoldMine database (as many folks have, over the past many years expressed an unexplainable desire to do)...

It's possible that your Novell network driver is at fault here and with GoldMine AND Access open, it's losing proper connectivity to your server.. There are knows issues with Novell and dBase (and Access) databases and the tendency for them to become corrupted when using the Novell network driver with the out-of-the-box settings. IT could be that having the TWO programs open is stressing things just enough to cause problems.. Check out this document: ftp://66.116.79.99/factsbacks/348.pdf

Doug, thank you. I will have the guy we hire to come fix our computers look at the document and see if it can be fixed. I can do everything with our computers except fix the server. Thanks for taking the time to help me and for the reference document. Janet Lyn
