hi DB2 guys.
I am an Access moving to DB2 small company DBA.
How come every time when I want to modify a table(modify column name, column data type , etc) I can't?
I liked Access because it was so accessible but now we are moving to DB2. Is there something wrong that I doing?
Thanks,
Kyle

Make sure you take the time to read the manual on the DB2UDB. What you want to use is the ALTER TABLE command.
This is assuming you have the proper authority to do so.
Make sure you have also set up your log-on at an Administrator level.

Also there is a great DB2 On-Line Library accessable from <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> I don't have the exact link with me but that should get you started.

DB2 UDB is a lot more complicated that Access but that much more powerful once you begin to understand it.
Good Luck Greg
Hi there,
Thanks for responding!
I talked to IBM support and they confirmed that I cannot change field datatype or field name using the ALTER TABLE feature. Is there something that the IBM support guy missed?
If so, please let me know! I am logging in using the admin account into an DB2 for WinNT (4.0 Server).
Thanks again!
Another approach would be to import the table from access,
Create a table in thhe format you want and write a conversion script to move the values from on table to another with the length and format changes you require.
Yes this is a fair amount of work but it also prepares you for future Data Conversion efforts as then only the script needs to be changed.
