I have an access db backend sitting on a RH8 linux server setup with Samba. When we changed all computers to XP, a version of samba suited for XP was installed on the linux server.
We have several Win XP computers on the network linking there front end to the backend.
Opening forms accessing information is extreamly slow.
An example of this is a command button that calculates totals from several tables and outputs it to a form , will take from 2 1/2 minutes to 3 minutes to finally display the answer.
If I link the front end on my win xp computer to the backend on another windows xp machine the time lapse for the same process is 6 seconds.
Can anyone please help with this problem, other than installing a windows server.
Thanks for anyhelp in advance.

Do you mean that there is an Access mdb file placed on a linux (samba) server ?

Have you looked at MySQL or PostgreSQL as an option for the Tables ?
Because an Access MDB file can grow to enormous sizes and every time a user does a query the whole file will be send of the network.

With SQL, only the query and the data that you requested will be send back.
