I have an access database with a feild set to OLE object. I can import word DOC files one at a time manually. The problem is I have several thousand that need to be imported. Is there a way to automate this? Ideally copying the name of the document to a field in the same table the OLE field is in.

I've never done the Word doc thing, but the OLE objects take a lot of memory. I'd guess that this is going to be a real problem in access--even small Word Docs can be several M in size. Why not bring them in as plain text? (XML coding is what you probably need here.)

I would be happy to do that. Will the formatting remain? (lines, bullets etc)Can this br something that can be automated so I dont have to manually point to all the files individually?

An alternative is to develop a folder structure to store the Word files and only store a filename path in Access. This design obviously prevents memory issues in Access. Then use a function to open the file from Access in Word.

My supervisors would like to see the files all in one format. I was hoping someone could tell me how to convert to XML as Quehay had mentioned but so far no dice.

I looked at the ad and it seems interesting but I dont know if they will spend the money. Penny wise Pound foolish.
