I can't seem to find any info on how VSS will treat ACCESS files ... as Access *.mdb is a binary I guess the normal text edit checkin/out prompts won't pop up for VBA and Object edits ... however when I open a mdb file that is in a VSS project I was expecting VSS to intercept Access and ask if the mdb file should be checked out ... is this the case or am I reading to much into the process?

Access XP and VSS6.0

As far as my knowledge goes. . .
There is no way to integrate VSS with Access.
The reason Visual Studio can do the appropriate checkins and checkouts is because of the Source Control Integration.

However if you made a batch file that did the checkin and checkout thought the command line and Called Access in the middle you could then register the mdb extension to that batch file. On the down side, this would not automaticaly checkout and in any mdb's explicitly opened from Acess.

It's not obvious but Microsoft does have an integration file. This explains how to do it.

I'm new to VSS and I'm working in an ADP environment so I can't say how good or bad it works.

Apparently it extracts all objects into text files and then locks all objects. The prompts you for checking in and checking out. So far that's all I know.
Good luck

Can anyone confirm that this works with Office 2k3 SP2 ... I have attempted to use this on 2 machines now and cannot get past the mdb file being added as a binary (only from inside Source Safe) ... no ojects are being added. Yes the mdb file can be checked in/out but the add object is not showing up for new forms etc and the add database only creates a project folder.

I installed a fresh copy of MS Office Pro 2K3 SP2 on a brand new machine loaded with XP Pro SP2 then added VSS ver 6.0d ran the VSS SP2 update then finally installed the Office Add-in ... Setup a new VSS database with Admin ... Attemted to add both a new and existing Access Database from with in Access ... only creates a Project ... I then added the files via the VSS Explorer ... either way no objects were created.

OK for future reference;

I made a typo in the postings I keep refering to VSS 6.0d SP2 it should be SP6 ... What appears to be the issue is that MS released two separate SP6 updates one is a FULL update 62Mb vs6sp6.exe and a product specific update for vss vss6sp6en.exe about 7Mb ... up until now I have been using the vss update ... however when I run the Full update for Visual Studio the Access ADD-IN starts to work properly ... I suspect that there may be something missing in the VSS update??

Anyway another one solved thanx for all that posted
