Access and Visual c++

how to set the size of column in my visual c++ program before it execute? in access, i can drag the border line and in future i open it, it will display the size i set before.
but in my program(i add ADO Data Control and DataGrid Control), it only allow me to drag the border line when it execute, everytime same, how to set the size in my program, i want the space for name longer than the space for date of birth.
