I use Visio 2000 Professional and Office 2000 on a NT4 System. The database I created needs User-ID and password to open. When I try to do a reengineering in Visio it refuses to open the db, even though I enter the correct ID and PW. Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks in advance.

You seem to be having trouble accessing your .mdw file. Once you go into the reverse engineer process (or the update process) you need to set up a new data source and when you get to the ODBC Text setup dialog box select the database you are accessing and then choose the .mdw from the system database option.

I have skipped some steps but this is an outline which I hope helps - if not yell and I should have more time for a better answer later in the week.

Hi Paul,
this is exactly what it was!! I had the strange idea, that viso takes the system-file setup out of the office settings (because its an office-product now) and didn`t recognize the system-file dialog in the database-setup in visio. The German adaption also gives a little strange name for it. Your hint saved me a lots of time, thank you!!
