Hello.

We are looking to move our Access 97 tables to SQL Server 2000 and wondered if anyone has done this successfully and if there are things we should do and not do to make this work easier for us.

We want to keep our reporting functions on Access 97, pointing to the new SQL tables. Would we want to do that as Linked tables in our Access DB?

Should we use the Upsizing Wizard in Access 97? I heard it has problems with SQL Server 2000, and we do not have Sql Server 7.

Should we attempt to pull (or push) more of the functionality we have in Access to SQL Server (forms,
VB code, etc?).. even ASPs?

We want this migration to be as painless as possible.

I would appreciate any clues you could provide that are tried and true.

Sincerely,

Steve Millman

I've not done a conversion from Access 97 but I have done a few from Access 2000 without running into any problems using the upsizing wizard. The process is so simple to run that you can repeat it if you don't like some of the chices you made.

YOu might want to consider upgrading to Access 2000 first, testing to see that everything is ok and then upsizing to SQL 2000.
