I'm a Security Admin with my company and we are currently running Win NT 4 along with Win XP. Our dept currently manages an Access 97' database which is accessed by both the Win NT 4 and XP machines. However, when an XP machine updates a record in the Access 97' database-that same record is not able to be accessed by a Win NT 4 machine after that. Apparently XP updates the record some way that makes NT unable to see it. Can anybody offer any solutions other than upgrading all machines to XP?

What types of fields are in the table that is being updated? Is the database a replica? How are the updates done - via query, a form, directly in the table? Do all users have the same Service Release for Access?

The types of fields being changed are general fields like the comments field which you could keep adding narrative to. Not sure what you mean by "replica. But, the database resides on the network and accessed from there. Updates are done via the forms tab and then status update is selected and the record is updated. Not certain what "Service Release" means but It's very likely that ll users have same permissions for the database.

If you haven't heard of replication with Access 97 then the database probably isn't a replica (you can read about it in help).

Microsoft had 2 Service Releases for Access 97 (like a service pack for NT) which corrected some bugs. It's a good idea to make sure the local Access 97 installations all have Service Release 2. You can download it from Microsoft's support site.

Does ANY update to the record on an XP machine make the record unviewable on an NT machine? Is the record unviewable when accessed directly or with a query or with a form? If you run a query against the table on an NT machine with just "Select Count(*) from table" does it have the correct number of records?

Thanks for your patience. I was advised that the latest service packs "should" have been installed. We are NOT accessing a replica, but accessing the master database itself. And, a record in not viewable/accessable at all to an NT client when updated by an XP client.
