I have an Access 97 database on a network with majority 97 users and a handful of 2000 users. The handful are the test cases with intent of upgrading entire department eventually.

When a 2000 user opens database that is currently open by a 97 user it locks up the 2000 machine.

Staying with 97 across the board is not an option. Converting to 2000 across the board is not an option. (We will have users outside of our department using 97 for some time.)

Is there anything I can do to work around this problem?

Thanks!

I am in the process of doing the same thing, only with Access 2002. What I have done is split up any databases that I needed to, then placed the front-end database on the client side...upgraded it to Office 2002, and linked to the data on the server side. This way I am able to upgrade users as I can without effecting my Access 97 users.

Maybe this would work for your situation. Good luck

Thanks!

Sorry for delay in responding. Between waiting for access to MS Access 2000 and getting redirected on another project, I finally was able to use your advice.

I am able to have users with different versions access the same database by the 2000 users using a different database linked to the 97 version. Both can be in it at the same time without trouble.

Thanks!
